Description

Prayer flags can be seen in temples and homes, and they are a form of prayer. Temple flags can be made of many materials, and ours are woven from hand loomed silk. The bamboo reeds seen in temple flags represent steps to heaven, or the elevation of prayers to a higher realm where they are heard and (hopefully) granted.

This piece is woven by Mrs. Daphone. She’s incorporated the ‘siho’, a half lion-half elephant mythical creature who symbolises strength and fortitude. The siho is carrying flowers and is accompanied by birds, reflecting everyday beauty and gratitude. A master weaver, Mrs. Daphone uses both ikat and supplementary weft weaving techniques in this three-panel wall hanging.
