Description

The Master Weaver Wall Hanging is a Village Weavers Project collaboration with the master weavers of Houaphan Province. The Tai Dam and Tai Daeng weavers there have long been recognized as some of Laos’ most accomplished weavers.

The wall hanging showcases namlai, or tapestry, and chok, or discontinuous supplementary weft, techniques, two very complex techniques. The tapestery pattern in the center symbolises water, while the double headed naga appears in along the top and bottom in the chok sections. Nagas are mythological water serpents and according to Lao mythology, they represent protection and guidance.

A museum quality piece, it takes more than 90 hours to complete this 100% silk wall hanging.
