During our village visits, we are often presented with rare vintage sinhs or perhaps a weaver comes to the Living Crafts Centre to sell their older pieces. We encourage vintage pieces to be used as they were intended, like this lovely silk sinh from a Tai Daeng community in northern Laos.
The Tai Daeng are accomplished weavers and incorporate motifs like the Naga, river serpent, for protection, or the Siho, lion-elephant, for strength. In this way, the sinh represents an ode to the spiritual world and expresses the weavers’ hopes and dreams. Constructed as a tube skirt, this piece is a one size fits all! It can be slipped on, folded and belted for easy, comfortable wear!
