Description

Piet, or Lao jungle vine, is a wonder fibre! The Khmu ethnic group has long understood the jungle vine’s strength, versatility and sustainable features. Khmu communities collect the vine in the jungle, then dry and crochet the fibres into bags and sturdy straps to attach to handwoven basket.

The bags are used for foraging, for storage and for carrying produce, wood, among other things. We partner with Khmu communities through our Village Weavers Project to create new shapes and functionalities, like beach totes and zippered pouches. We’ve even collaborated with the Khmu to dye piet with natural dyes. Learn more here.
