Description

The name Muji is a nod to the simplicity of the Japanese aesthetic. But, as with Japanese craft, Lao craftsmanship shows tremendous depth, skill and simplicity.

Akha artisans in northern Laos collaborated with us on these indigo dyed and embroidered cotton placemats. The Akha are well-versed in embroidery and indigo dyes. They also decorate their clothing with Job’s Tears seeds, which have been sewn along the edge of these placemats.
