Description

Our classic black and white organic cotton jacket is naturally-dyed and hand-woven by Tai Lue women. Known for their weaving skills, the Tai Lue often look to nature and the spiritual world for inspiration.

Gettao in Lao means the back of the turtle and the design of this jacket was inspired by the pattern on the back of the turtle. As the turtle, this jacket has been slowly made and will last for a long time… The interlocking black and white fibres create a simple and handsome design. Plus we add Hmong batik pieces on the collar and pocket openings.

Hmong artisans use a traditional metal pen, a resist wax dye technique plus natural indigo to create their nature inspired motifs. To get the pieces needed to assemble this jacket, we work with Tai Lue and Hmong artisans through our Village Weavers Project.
