Description

Oma and Akha communities in northern Laos’ Phongsaly and Luang Namtha Province decorate their clothing with beads and embroidery. These artisans have adapted this traditional skill to embroider face masks with classic, nature-inspired motifs. Lightweight and easy to wear, these two-layer masks are great for all. The outer layer is 100% linen decorated with colorful embroidery and the inside layer is soft cotton. You can adjust the straps behind your ears to fit your face perfectly. Same goes for the nose.

Due to the handmade nature of this product, it is only available in multi-color embroidery. Please add comments at checkout if you have a preference for the color. We’ll try our best to send you what you prefer.

Since October 2019, in collaboration with the EIF (Enhanced Integrated Framework), we’ve been working with artisans from 6 different villages and 3 provinces. We help them develop ranges of handicrafts that combine craftsmanship and tradition with realistic creativity and market knowledge. Our team of weavers, dyers, designers and tailors transfer their skills to aid artisans to make a better living from handicrafts.

Made in collaboration with Oma and Akha artisans through our Village Weavers Project. The outer layer is embroidered in the villages and the masks are tailored and assembled at our Living Crafts Centre. Learn more about the Oma and Akha.
