Treehouses and More: What’s New at LCC this Fall

Here at Ock Pop Tok we live by the motto “Anything is possible” and we are always striving to make new dreams come true.

So when co-founder Jo told me one afternoon that she wanted to build treehouses around the Living Crafts Centre, I knew that she would find a way to make it happen.

For anyone who has been to our Living Crafts Centre, you know that it is already a little piece of paradise, where you can relax by the river, enjoy delicious food, learn about Lao textiles and traditions, create a handmade piece of your own  in a one of our classes, or shop our unique handmade textiles. In the past few months we have done a lot of work to make it even better.

  • So… what’s new?

We built a new activities area to hold our classes.  The new space is in the same great location as the previous spot, right on the banks of the Mekong, but it is new and improved.  While this building doesn’t officially qualify as one of our tree houses, it looks like one. We made the area bigger so that we can accommodate more students and everyone has more space. There are multiple levels to help separate the classes and give our students a more private experience.

We also built 3 actual tree houses! One of the things that I like most about working at Ock Pop Tok is that the co-founders value their staff and always look for ways to improve the employee experience. So, the biggest tree house is located just off of the weaving studio actually for the staff to use as a break area. Staff lunches at LCC just got so much more fun!

The second tree house is located right on the Mekong River. This one is used for the bamboo weaving and village weaver classes.  People can also rent it out for private parties or events. I love hanging out in this tree house, it is like my childhood fantasies have become reality!

The third is the View Point tree house and it is a part of our Silk Road Café. This one is located high up in a tree next to the café. Sitting amongst the treetops, you feel like you are on top of the world when you are in it. Guests use the space for coffee, cocktails, or having a meal.

We have more exciting changes in the works, but we will save those for another time. So come visit us in Luang Prabang, experience what’s new and make your childhood dreams come true in one of our tree houses.
