Jobs

Ock Pop Tok is currently seeking: Operations Manager for the Living Crafts Centre.

Background Information

Ock Pop Tok was set up by 2 young women in 2000.  The original concept of the venture was to produce great textiles in an ethical and sustainable manner.  10 years on Ock Pop Tok is now one of Luang Prabang’s leading textile producers and retailers.  Ock Pop Tok employs over 40 people, the company is continually growing with a number of new projects starting this year.  This year our goal is to consolidate operations and make the Living Crafts Centre a must see tourist destination.

Ock Pop Tok meaning east meets west, was built up on the ethos of bringing people together through textiles to exchange knowledge and ideas.  This concept is brought to life at our Living Crafts Centre(LCC), 2 kms from the centre of Luang Prabang town.  The LCC started as an atelier for many different artisans; silk weavers, bamboo weavers, and hmong batik artists.  In 2005 we opened it up to the public running free tours now its a tourist destination with 4 operations:

1. Tourism Activities; free tours, classes, workshops & seminars.

2. A shop

3. A cafe

4. A 4 roomed textile design themed Guest house.

The business operates under the principles of fair trade.   Our mission is to advance the artistic, cultural and social development of Lao artisans and their textile traditions.  Through educational activities we aim to increase tourists understanding and appreciation of Lao’s diverse textiles and communities.

Currently local based sales make up the core of our business.  We have retail outlets at 4 Luang Prabang locations; the Ock Pop Tok Living Crafts Centre (LCC), 2 OPT shops (centrally located) and a hotel giftshop.

Ock Pop Tok is recognised both by NGO’s and the international press as a small but important part of Lao’s social and economical development.  The position offers the right person great prospects for their own professional development and reputation within the management, development and creative world.
