Caring For Your Textile
Display
Strong sunlight can damage your textile and cause fading. Hot and humid conditions attract insects as well as mildew and mold. Fans assist in keeping the textile dry. If wet, dry as soon as possible. If mildew is detected, wash the area with a gently soap and dry with a fan. For hanging, ensure that the hanger can support the width of the textile. Textiles can be framed. Consult a professional framer.
Storage
Store your textiles flat. Folding textiles can create permanent creases. If you fold, refold the textile peroiodically to avoid permanent damage. Place acid free paper between folds. Acid free paper prevents migratin of dyes or damage. Rolling the textile is best, place acid free paper around the textile and wrap in plain muslin or store in an archival tube.
Working With Textiles
When working with textiles remove all jewelry. Make sure your hands are clean and dry. Work on a clean surface.
Cleaning
Vacuuming on low is the safest way to clean a textile. Place the textile on a flat, clean surface and place a mesh or wire screen over the textile. The screen protects from any loose threads being pulled in the cleaner. Wash when necessary, most of Ock Pop Tok textiles are silk and colour fast, but some natural dyes may fade. Test a small corner first. Use an extremely mild soap and cold water. Dry flat on a towel to maintain the shape. Iron on low heat using a clean, dry cloth over the textile.
